Here at Dakota Dental, we specialize in general dentistry for both adults and children. One of our primary concerns is to ensure your visit is as comfortable as possible. We are a preventative-oriented practice that serves you with the quality care you require and deserve. We know our patients want to understand the reason for our recommended treatment plan and estimated cost. Alternative treatments are often times an option. With good communication between you and your doctor, you will be able to choose the treatment plan that will meet and exceed your expectations.

A Family Affair

Established in 1975, Dakota Dental is a three generation, general dentistry practice that started with Dr. James Kappenman in 1948. Dr. Anlee Rola joined her father in 1977 when Dakota Dental was located around 14th and Minnesota. A few years later, Dr. Tim Kappenman joined his sister in practice. Dr. Rola's daughter, Dr. Jaclyn Schuler joined the practice in 2005, making Dakota Dental the three generation general dentistry practice it is today. Because we are a family practice, we have an office wide feeling of a family atmosphere. We love to treat whole families; treat our patients as our family; and love seeing our patients grow. Your dental health, your smile, and your confidence are an extension of us. We take pride in our work.

Dr. Anlee Rola


Dr. Anlee Rola was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended O'Gorman High School and then moved on to receive a bachelors of arts in both microbiology and psychology from Missouri University. From there, she received her doctor of dental surgery from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. She is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society in Dentistry. Dr. Rola joined her father, Dr. James W. Kappenman in practice in 1977 when Dakota Dental was located at 14th and Dakota here in Sioux Falls.

Dr. Rola recieved the Creighton University Alumni merit award in 2012 for her numerous contributions to the University over the years. Throughout her years in dentistry she has served on many boards but currently serves as a Delta Dental Board of Directors.

Dr. Rola is married to Dr. David Rola, a veterinarian at East Acres Animal Hospital. She has three grown children: Jackie, Angie, and Jennifer. Dr. Rola enjoys spending time at the lake cabin, bicycling, traveling with her family, reading, water-sports, gardening but most of all, is enjoying her role as Grandma to Dr. Schuler's children, Ava and Zach, and Angie's son Connor, and anticipates the arrival of many more!

While Dr. Rola enjoys seeing patients of all ages, her heart lies with improving the quality of life of the older generations, and has even received honors for her work with the nursing homes in Sioux Falls. Dr. Rola loves seeing the finished product of a partial or denture case and enjoys restoring a smile to its full potential.

Dr. Tim Kappenman


Dr. Tim Kappenman was born and raised in Sioux Falls, where he later attended Augustana College for his undergraduate studies. Continuing the family legacy, he received his doctor of dental surgery degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, graduating with his brother Jay. Upon graduation he moved back to Sioux Falls to join his father and sister in the practice. Together they grew the practice into what it is today. Dr. Tim currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the South Dakota Dental Association.

Dr. Tim is married to Jeanne, who spends her days volunteering and as a full-time mom to their four children. Dr. Tim spends his free time hunting, flying, and watching "his birds" at the lake cabin. He also pursues his dream of teaching dentistry to students. . He spends two Fridays a month as a volunteer instructor at Crieghton's Dental School, working in the sophomore laboratory, and oral surgery departments. He loves passing on his knowledge to his students and always returns with a new story.

Dr. Tim's dental passions lie in complicated oral surgeries and orthodontics. It is fun for the whole office to see the finished products of multi-year long ortho patients; and is something that is celebrated by the patient and staff as a whole. Dr. Tim sees patients of all ages, but especially excels in the complicated surgery cases that come through our doors.

Dr. Jaclyn Schuler


Dr. Schuler joined the practice in 2005, making Dakota Dental a three-generation practice. She received both her undergraduate and doctor of dental surgery degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. She is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society in Dentistry. Dr. Schuler currently serves as the dental department chair at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Dr. Schuler lives in Sioux Falls with her husband, Eric, and two children, Ava and Zachary. the Schuler home life is busy, buy the family loves lazy weekends at Lake Okoboji, playing outside, and entertaining friends out at the pool.

Dr. Schuler has enjoyed getting to know the many faces that come through our doors, and, has really found her passion for the practice in the younger generations. She excels in caring for kids as young as 1. As an experienced mother of young children, Dr. Schuler cares for the children of Dakota Dental as if they are her own. Besides being our go-to caregiver for our young patients, when needed, Dr. Schuler takes patients of all ages to the Avera Surgical Center. This has provided our patients with an option for quality dental care, when extinuating circumstances make dental care otherwise impossible, and is a wonderful option for disabled patients.
